David Caulton of Zunester.com has clarified a couple of things about Zune to Zune sharing which may not have been clear initially. Here’s are the details:

  • Zune has 802.11 b/g built right in and set up in ad-hoc mode
  • You can search for nearby Zune players
  • You can send them a song over wireless but the song is governed by the 3 day/3 play limitations. The song, meta-data, and the Album art of the song is sent over wireless from one Zune to another Zune. Once the limits are reached, the player will delete the song on the next sync. Howver, information about the song is kept behind in what Dave describes as a “journal” on your PC. You can peruse the journal later on in case you’ll want to purchase the song on the Marketplace.
  • Photos can be sent via the WiFi connection and have an unlimited viewing rate. The pics can even be sync’d back to the PC!

Sorry folks - the Zune will NOT connect to the Internet - nor connect to your local home wireless network - NOR connect to the Zune Marketplace directly for song downloads. The wireless capabilities is purely for Zune to Zune communications.
