What better way to find out about the Microsoft Zune player than to interview a beta tester who’s actually played with the darn thing. That’s what the folks at GearLive.com have done and they’ve posted up a video of their interview here on their website. You can also download the video in a variety of formats.

The beta tester was interviewed at the Podcast Media Expo and you’ll get a clear shot of the Zune and what it has to offer. We took down some notes from the interview and here are the highlights:

  • Yes it’s a beta version of the player
  • A quote from the tester - “It’s pretty neat .. I’ve actually been enjoying it quite a bit” (yes he does not work for Microsoft!)
  • Magnetic headphones allowing them to stay together and not get tangled up
  • FM reception is ok
  • Definitely a variation of the Portable Media Center UI
  • Scrolling seems faster than the PMC in Toshiba Gigabeat S
  • Zune sharing - can select a single song or an entire album to share via wireless
  • Thinks it’s possible to sync with a Windows Media Center system for recorded television shows but he’s not sure
  • Not as excited about the Zune Marketplace
  • BROWN IS HOT! The beta testers were not allowed to get brown colored Zunes
  • Finally - he says the Zune is a “simple easy device to use”

For those of you who can’t see the video, here are screenshots we took from it. The video is of course from GearLive.com so give them all the props for getting this.
