And the official Zune website is… Zune.net?
It appears that Microsoft may be lacking one key ingredient to their Zune marketing campaign - the Zune.com domain name. That’s right. Zune.com is currently owned by one Antonio Nogales of London and not by Microsoft. Microsoft did manage to secure Zune.net but if you look at the registration records, you’ll notice that Zune.net was registered to Microsoft on June 26th of this year - a bit late for a new product launch no? Of course, it’s probable that Microsoft will end up owning Zune.com one way or another but it’s a bit funny that they don’t have it in the meantime given how close the launch is now.
Now getting Zune.com wasn’t the only problem for Microsoft. RedHerring (which reported on this domain name oversight) also reports that ZuneMarketplace.com belongs to someone OTHER than Microsoft. We’re not sure if Microsoft would want that domain name or not (it’s totally possible that the Zune Marketplace would be folded right into their live initiatives if you ask us) but yes - it’s another strange domain name oversight. Again - you’d think that when you launch a new product, you’d want all of the marketing materials to be in line with your product launch - including domain names.
At the end of the day we do know two things:
- We can rest assured that ComingZune.com will forever belong to Microsoft - even when the Zune has indeed been introduced. (Hey - maybe Microsoft will forever use ComingZune.com as a way to launch new Zune players? Who knows! )
- Zune.net belongs to Microsoft and will be the home of the new Zune for now!

Zunemarketplace.com has been withdrawn from sedo.com although it’s still listed you cannot get details on it. I’m guessing this has been snapped up someone but I wonder who would pay over $1,400’s for a domain? Is it really worth that much?

Well if Microsoft did end up getting the site, then $1400 was a small price to pay if you ask me. The only thing with ZuneMarketplace.com is.. it’s a bit too long of a “cool” domain name so maybe Microsoft could care less. We’ll see!

Uh-huh. Check back at http://www.zune.com. It looks like promotional material now.

I checked all the alternative zunemarketplace domains and discovered zunemarketplace.net and zunemarketplace.org both belong to Microsoft and was registered AFTER zunemarketplace.com.
Microsoft has screwed up, make no mistake. Whoever has zunemarketplace.com will win either way. If microsoft doesn’t want it then the opposition probably will.

I cannot access my music on my computer. Dell has deleted and reloaded my Windows XP software associated with the Zune. I get my home page and sign in and it comes back with an error message that says there is no such error message and for me to go to Web Error. There is another sign in this area so I sign in and now it goes, however I still cannot get my music. Also, once when the Zune was syncing all of my music on the Zune was deleted, only one albun remained. It seems I just go around in circles and so far three Microsoft technicians have not been able to help. Any suggestions? Thanks!

After 7hrs 3 service packs and umpteen updates i was successful in loading the Zune software. Now the zune does nothing after you click ok. It does not read the device as being connected. My daudgter has an ipod. I have the Zen. MS is batting 1000 for administering software issues. Can anyone help to resolve this issue so I can see how my zune plays. PLEASE!
