CNET’s Crave blog has posted a preview of the Altec Lansing M604 Powered Audio System for the Microsoft Zune here on their site. The M604 is a close relative of the M602 which of course is for the Apple iPod. The M604 comes in a darker package than the M602 - providing an elegant match to the Zune. Features of the M604 include:

  • High definition audio
  • Clean crisp sound from four specially engineered full range neodymium spekaers
  • XdB bass enhancement technology creates deep bass without a subwoofer
  • Wireless remote control and built in controls such as play, forward, back, volume, bass, treble, and stand by
  • Built in universal dock - transfers music and recharges the Zune
  • Wall mountable design
  • Composite video output for Zune video
  • Universal MP3 cradle for other MP3 players out there
  • Headphone jack for private listening

The Altec Lansing M604 is listed at $199.95 though I’m sure you can get it cheaper right now. Here’s a quote from Crave:

first, the brown Zune, which I personally find rather ugly anyway, looks a bit incongruous plugged into the M604, as the speaker is black with silver accents. Also, cursory testing reveals that the speakers sound very good–as well they should for 200 smackers. Stay tuned for a more in-depth review.
