The folks at the Zune Scene have uncovered some pretty exciting information about possible new upcoming Zune devices. All of this information is based on a conversation the editors at the Zune Scene had with an unnamed Microsoft employee who works with the Zune team. So here’s the lowdown:

  • There will be two new Zune devices coming out this year - a Zune 2.0 and a flash based Zune.
  • Both devices will not be as easy to open
  • Both have completed design phase

Zune 2.0 details:

  • Looks like a 1st gen Zune but thinner
  • Larger hard drive

Flash Zune details:

  • Measures about 3 x 1.25 x 0.25 inches
  • Video capable
  • Screen covers 3/4th the space of the front
  • Includes Wi-Fi
  • Will be available in several colors
  • No word on how much memory but flash memory “fills the smaller device from top to bottom”

Zune Scene also managed to get some interesting numbers. There will be approximately 2.4 million next generation Zune units manufactured by the 2007 holiday season with 2/3rds of them flash based.

Also - could the above picture be an early shot of the Zune 2.0 device?
