Long time fans of Joy Division will love this one. Microsoft will launch a limited edition Zune media player with custom artwork designed by Peter Saville on June 17th to commemorate the DVD release of the “Joy Division” movie documentary. The custom black Zune 80 player will come preloaded with the Joy Division movie and will have an adaptation of Saville’s artwork from Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures” album etched on the back. 500 of these players will be made available on http://www.zune.net and on http://www.zuneoriginals.net. The DVD release of “Joy Division” is set for the same day and will be released through Genius Products and The Weinstein Company. I’ve already seen the flick and Joy Division fans will surely enjoy the film! The limited edition Joy Division Zune 80 will cost $399.99.

zune 80 originals

Are you still looking for a Zune 80? How about getting yourself a Zune 80 Original instead? Yup - the Zune Originals website is finally listing the Zune 80 as an option to customize. As mentioned earlier, you can do one of three things:

  • Add text to the back of your Zune player
  • Add a combination of art and text
  • Add a custom background image from an artist

Best part of it all? The customizations are entirely free of charge. Zune Originals states that the Zune 80 will ship 5 to 7 business days from the time of order. You can also customize Zune 4 and Zune 8 flash based players.

live at the bbq

As most of you know, Microsoft held their last “Live at the BBQ” concert this past weekend in NYC. There are plenty of write-ups on the net about the concert and thanks to ZuneInsider, here are some of the links. (Man.. I love the fact that the Brooklyn Bridge is the backdrop to the concert!)

Blender has an good write-up here and has this to say:

How’s this for a winning Saturday afternoon concert formula: A sunny New York City day plus live sets from LL Cool J, Clipse, the Lox, Brand Nubian and others plus an incredible view of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The “Nah Right” blog has a video clip of LL Cool J here.

The folks at ZuneThoughts.com have a write-up here. Here’s a blurb:

It’s nice to see Microsoft give back to the community that has supported them (the event was free), and I’d certainly like to see more grassroots PR such as this. Now, about the Zune 2.0…

Finally, SLAM Online has an article entitled “Doin It Big in Brooklyn” with a caption “Microsof Knows How to Throw One Helluva Party”. Here’s their comment near the end:

I had a great time and everyone was already asking if Microsoft/Edelman were gonna do this again next summer. If so I’m there.

There you have it. It sure sounds like everyone had a blast with the NYC “Live at the BBQ” event. Thanks again to Microsoft for hosting these three free concerts this summer. Special thanks to Cesar for hooking us up earlier last month for the Los Angeles concert!
